Extending WIFI Range

Posted by Brian David Simonds on Tuesday, April 9, 2013
A customer who lives on a farm have converted a barn to a holiday let. Clients expected to have internet access while staying their but there were obstacles.
  • The barn is too far away for a normal range extender to give a reliable connection
  • Could not justify the expense a separate broadband line
  • Laying cable would be difficult and expensive
  • Being a farm with 3 phase supply meant powerline networking was not possible

The solution was to research range extenders that can be daisy chained by allowing you to pick the MAC address to link from.

Got the message below form the customer today to say the solution is working well.

Our daughter and family were staying at the Barn for the Easter week and commented that it now has has a quite remarkable Wifi coverage.  The children were just plonking their lap-top down anywhere from one end of the barn to the other  and never doubting they would get a perfect signal.  Simply had to let you know how pleased we are.

Thank you
